To launch the careers of playwrights.

Mission

We introduce audiences to the most talented playwrights who have yet to have an Off-Broadway premiere. We invest in a diverse roster of voices to keep our art form vital to American culture and strive to make Page 73 synonymous with the best New York theater has to offer.

Our Values

  • Equity is at the heart of our mission (to launch the careers of early-career playwrights.) We believe all writers, regardless of background or experience, deserve respect, fair compensation, and fully professional services as they embark on their artistic journeys. Our Off-Broadway premieres provide a platform for new voices to be heard while modeling an environment where playwrights learn to advocate for themselves and their work. We take great care to treat our writers with dignity, providing dramaturgical support, thoughtful collaboration, and transparent business practices. Our goal is not only to incubate great new plays, but to prepare playwrights to seize (and maximize) opportunities as their careers progress. We want artists who work with us to know they have a partner invested in their growth and advancement.

  • We care about meaningful experience. The experience our playwrights have in our programs, and the experience we deliver to our audiences. We are a service-minded culture that is collaborative and harmonious. And we are famous for our hospitality. When we break bread together, we set a convivial tone—and make our work human. We try to achieve balance and know that the best way to do so is to create a sustainable culture for us all, which means caring and showing compassion for our team as well as our larger community.

  • We pride ourselves on leading the field rather than following, and we strive to be renowned tastemakers dedicated to pushing the boundaries of contemporary American theater. Our thoughtful curation and intentional process allows us to cultivate exceptional voices and showcase new works that expand our art form. We believe in the power of new ideas and artistic daring. Our discernment provides a platform for diverse perspectives and originality that makes the art form better. Our taste and vision bring audiences the best of what’s next. Above all, we use our influential platform within the field to amplify the innovative voices that shape American theater.

  • Dependability and integrity guide everything we do. We provide playwrights (who often lack stability in both their lives and careers) with a constant source of professional, human support. And we remain steadfastly accountable to our commitment: our actions reflect clearly communicated expectations, and we always keep our promises to artists. Our developmental programs and productions set the standard for how playwrights should expect to be treated—with dignity and respect. From our renowned Writers Group to Off-Broadway premieres, we care for artists holistically and with authenticity. Playwrights trust us to give them the tools to advocate for themselves as their careers progress. We center our writers' needs, ensuring quality experiences, fair compensation, and personalized career development. Our responsibility extends beyond our walls, as we empower new voices that will shape the future of theater.

  • We are devoted to uplifting the power of language by championing exceptional voices in theater. We take great care in selecting the most gifted playwrights to collaborate with, recognizing that their diversity of perspectives and artistic expressions are essential nourishment for the soul of a robust society. We do this by dedicating ourselves to amplifying voices not yet heard through thoughtful development programs and Off-Broadway premieres. Our audiences experience this with us always, whether at a reading or a production—really, in everything we do, because words are at the heart of Page 73, and we always use them intentionally.
