A Note to Our Community

We hope that everyone is taking care in these challenging times.

  • We are regularly in touch with our playwrights—both those in our current development programs and our past program participants and alumni. Our community is over 130 playwrights strong and we know that many are dealing directly with loss, illness, unemployment, isolation, and increased family responsibilities brought by Covid-19. We hold these playwrights in our constant thoughts.

  • This year we reimagined our usual Summer Residency as multiple, eleven-day online residencies that culminate in Playwright Conversations — read more about them.

  • The 2020 Interstate 73 writers group has moved its biweekly meetings to Zoom where our eight members are still convening to share their newest pages and discuss their work.

  • We also continue to work remotely with our 2020 Fellow, Emma Goidel, on her scripts in development.

  • We also have held closed workshops over Zoom to give playwrights an opportunity for collaborative tablework with actors and a director.

  • Though we were not able to produce public workshops in spring 2020 as part of the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship and Interstate 73 writers group, we are committed to rescheduling these events as soon as it is safe to do so. We have not reduced the resources promised to our playwrights, nor will we substitute those resources with online-only work.

  • The application process for our 2021 development programs continues as usual. We announced 13 semifinalists in October, and we expect to announce Fellowship finalists in December.

  • Our staff is working remotely and we are prioritizing employee health. Our Board of Directors has stepped up in remarkable ways to support the staff and strive together for our company’s stability in the short- and long-term.

  • Page 73 believes there is no truly successful execution of our mission if it furthers white supremacy, anti-Blackness, or racism. Click here to read our statement on anti-racism and learn more about our ongoing work.

Page 73 will remain a steadfast resource for all our current and alumni playwrights. Despite the adversity and uncertainty surrounding us right now, we will continue to be active in our mission to support early-career playwrights.

We eagerly await the day we can once more experience the work of our playwrights live, in a room together with you!
